The children of Year 2 have settled in well into the Spring term and have done some fantastic learning. Here is an overview of what we will be learning this term.
English
We will continue to develop our story writing through the story of ‘The Snail and the Whale’. Children will practise writing stories, letters and diary entries as well as develop their use of descriptive language. Regular spellings and grammar will also be part of our learning, as well as poetry and exploring non-fiction texts.
Maths
The maths topics for spring term are Multiplication and Division, Statistics, Geometry (properties of shape) and Fractions. We will continue to do our daily CLIC sessions, which focus on number and calculation.
For your reference, the ‘learn its’ this term are as follows: 5+4, 5+6, 6+7, 8+7 and 8+9 and the 5 x table.
Topic (History)
For this term, we have an exciting new history topic on ‘The Great Fire of London’. We will learn about how the great fire started and ended, what London was like during the 17th century with a focus on the diary of Samuel Pepys and the effects the fire had on the city.
Science
We will be learning about the uses of different materials and their properties. We will explore materials and their suitability for different tasks and complete an investigation to investigate which materials are waterproof.
Religious Education
For the first half of the Spring term our focus is on kindness. We will be exploring different parables from the Bible and what Jesus has taught us about kindness. In the second half of Spring term we will be focusing on Easter and the build up of events to Easter Sunday.
PE
This term the children will be learning HRE – Healthy Related Exercise and Football. PE will continue on Wednesday mornings. Please ensure your child is wearing the navy blue St. Michael’s tracksuit and it is clearly labelled with their name. Alternatively, if your child does not have a school tracksuit, please ensure they are in their house colour t-shirt and jogging bottoms along with their uniform to change into after.
MFL (Modern Foreign Language)
In Key Stage 1, we are fortunate to have a teacher from the Italian consulate, who introduces the children to a language other than English through songs games and rhymes.
Computing
Computing this term will focus on sharing information and video editing. We will continually have a focus on e-safety weaved into the lessons.
Music
We are following our Charanga curriculum. The children will be exploring feelings through music and inventing a musical story.
HRE (Health and Relationship Education)
In HRE, the children will be looking at two themes: Dreams and Goals and Healthy Me which looks at ways to stay healthy in mind and body.
