In science this term, Year 1 have been learning about the seasons, in particular springtime. They have learnt about the signs in nature and the environment that shows that spring is here; this included learning about the weather. To embed their learning Ms Ferris decided it was performance time and turned science into a brilliant cross curricular lesson. First the children learnt what a meteorologist does, then it was over to them.
Year 1 became real life weather reporters equipped with microphones and a brain full of science knowledge all about the weather. They had to think about how to present their information to the viewers.
The lesson involved, Literacy to write scripts, Computing to use I-movie on the iPad to film and Science to measure and report the weather using the correct equipment and terminology.
The children worked collaboratively to film each other presenting the weather. Be sure to watch these weather reporters as they REALLY know their stuff and they may just help you avoid getting wet!
A GIGANTIC well done to all of Year 1 – you did an excellent job, we may have some budding meteorologists in our school!
