Last week, Years 4 and 5 had a visit from Newscool to learn about everything news related!

We learnt about what news is, what makes a story newsworthy and why news is important. We also had a think about news sources and which ones are reliable.

After that, we considered opening paragraphs and covering the “5 W’s” in our writing (who, what, where, when, why, and how…).

After lunch, Year 5 held a mock press conference for a breaking news item, Ms Gillespie’s Kindness Initiative. We wrote possible questions and then narrowed them down to the most effective.
Finally, Ms Gillespie visited our class and answered all the questions with great knowledge and insight.

We thoroughly enjoyed the session and even had a number of children wanting to be journalists when they grow up! Thank you NewsCool!
