Plant a Flower Day takes place on the 12th of March every year. This day encourages people of all ages to put their green thumbs to work and plant flowers. As spring begins to bloom, this day serves as a reminder of the beauty of flowers and the importance of looking after the environmental.

As a school community we have been once again blessed by the expert help of Davidia Urban Gardens Ltd, who selflessly gave their time and resources to make this day wonderful for all the children. We can definitely say that all children at St Michael’s have once again had the opportunity to ‘Plant A Flower’.
The preparation had been taking place before hand; getting planters, tyres and tubs ready for the children to fill with their flowers. On the morning of the 12th, Davidia Urban Gardens began…

This day also explores discussing how the flowers will grow and what they need to survive and thrive.

“I enjoyed it when it was my turn because I liked touching the soil and when I was told to tuck the soil in like tucking yourself into bed.”
“Thank you very much, it was very fun to plant flowers and it really made me think about starting to plant my own flowers.”
“I liked being able to choose my own flower to plant.”

“Thank you for coming to our school to help us plant flowers, it was so much fun. I am so glad you came to our school. Thank you!”
“I liked getting my hands dirty, even though it wasn’t that dirty.”
“Planting flowers was very fun as it will make the school look pretty and wonderful. I’m very happy I had the chance to do it!”

“I enjoyed when our helpers told me a fact I didn’t know before: that daffodils are close relatives of green onions!”
“What I liked about planting was giving the plant a place to live. I look forward to seeing them blossom and bloom.”
“I liked planting flowers as it is good for the outside world and was a fun activity.”

In planting, I enjoyed getting my hand really dirty and making things grow.
The best thing about planting is knowing that you are making the world a better, more beautiful place.

When we were planting together it was nice to be outside and have fun in a group
We planted daffodils, strawberries, lavender, herbs and flowers!

Davidia Urban Gardens shared, “we have thoroughly enjoyed today, watching all the children, including those who initially didn’t want to get their hands dirty, diving in and planting their flowers. They all got so involved and then said lovely thank yous afterwards, some even skipped off with a jovial ‘see you next year‘, which was fabulous.”
Please take a moment to stop and look at the flowers, enjoy the wonder of God’s creation and see how many insects are enjoying the flowers too – we have already seen some bees foraging for nectar!
Creator God
In bright light and dull darkness
In the energy of each day and the rest that comes with night
We remember the goodness of God
In the heavens high above our heads
In waters that run deep around the world
We remember the goodness of God
In solid land and flowing seas
In vivid flowers and fruit laden-trees
We remember the goodness of God
In the rising and setting of the sun
and the cycles of the seasons
In the patterns of the shining stars
We remember the goodness of God
In oceans teeming with fish
In skies filled with birds
We remember the goodness of God
In a world filled with animal life
And in ourselves as human beings
We remember the goodness of God
And God looked and saw all that he had made, and indeed it was very, very good.
In rest and reflection, in wonder and worship
We remember the goodness of God.
Amen
