On Thursday 6th March, the children and staff of St. Michael’s celebrated World Book Day. World Book Day is a day to celebrate reading and books, and to encourage children to develop a love of reading. It’s celebrated in over 100 countries and children dress up as their favourite book character. Throughout the day, the children of St. Michael’s engaged in a variety of different book related activites.
We also had a Drop Everything and Read time that no matter what you were doing, you had to stop, grab a good book and take some time to read.
Even the office staff joined in…

Each class enjoyed dressing up as their favourite book character!

During the day, the teachers did a class swap where they had to do a fun book related activity with another class.
The Nursery swapped with Year 2 for story time!

Reception swapped with Year 3. Reception explored Mr. Wolf’s Pancakes and had a great discussion about what they would do if they had to make pancakes without any help. They also talked about the right thing to do in that situation and were all very surprised by Mr. Wolf’s choice! Then, they had fun acting it out using puppets. Year 3 drew their favourite book characters and brought them to life using a media app on the ipads. After they drew their characters they were able to upload and use the software to make them move! We had characters jumping, waving, running and even dancing!

Year 1 swapped with Year 4 and did a book scavenger hunt and made book marks!

Year 5 and 6 swapped and started with ‘Who is the Masked Reader?’ where they had to guess the celebrity and the book they were reading. They had three clues for each guess. This was followed by ‘Literary Genres Hunt’ where they had to find a book and write down its title and author. They had a list of 11 genres. This activity took place in the school library.

A fantastic day was had by all and we cannot wait for next year! Until then, just keep reading.
