National Storytelling Week is an annual event that encourages people to embrace the tradition of storytelling and celebrating the power of sharing stories. This year’s theme was ‘Reimagine Your World’. The children had the opportunity to listen to different authors online with their own experiences of storytelling. The children of St. Michael’s celebrated by engaging in a variety of different activities.
The Reception children made their own books and story maps to retell their versions of Polar Bear, Polar Bear, and got to share them with the class.
Year 1 enjoyed story time in the library and together retold the story they have been learning in class- Lost and Found.
Year 2 tapped into storytelling week by acting out stories for the class that they wrote inspired by the Snail and the Whale. They also enjoyed many moments of reading as a class and independently, discovering a lot of new books.
For National Storytelling Week, Year 3 had a wonderful time visiting the library with Mr. Leslie, where we enjoyed reading our favorite stories to him. We also paired up with Year 5 class for a special reading session, taking turns to read and listen to stories together. It was a fun and engaging experience, giving us the chance to practice our fluency skills while sharing the joy of storytelling.
Year 4 and 5 had a great time reading together. Year 4 read their Escape Stories that they have just finished writing to a Year 5 partner and Year 5s chose their favourite book to read to them. Year 4 also took their reading lesson to the library this week. They are reading the “Boy in the Back of the Class” and loving it.
Year 6 chose to go to the library and have a picture book read to them as they do not normally have that experience these days due to the fact that chapter books (with no pictures) is what is normally read or read to them. Year 6 thoroughly enjoyed the experience and we will be doing more of it.
