My Future is so bright – Shannon Wright: Tour Manager

We had the pleasure of introducing Shannon Wright who works in music and entertainment as a Product Manager and a Tour Manager. Her work is around event production and managing logistics, working alongside brands and artists to bring campaigns to life.

She shared her South London roots and education, at first aspiring to be a journalist after graduating university.

Her work is currenty as a tour manager for Burna Boy, but she has had a lot of time working with some famous faces.

Being a tour manager is like being a parent; making sure people get to the right place at the right time with the right equipment. Her role involves doing just that with the team around the artist she is working with. Shannon uses communication and organisation daily, managing the moving of a show from one country or city to another. That includes the stage and all parts of the set. Written communication is used to help everyone understand what the schedule for the day is and the timings they need to follow.

Problem solving is inbuilt in her role too. Can the stage be constructed in the space? Will the artist be able to safely perform? Do all members of the crew have their microphone kits ready? The tour manager’s role is extremely busy and not as glamorous as you may expect!

Work is mainly from home, but the role does include a lot of travelling, often by tour bus or plane, but also by air and sea. The nature of the role means she does not have set work times, often working until the job is done on very little sleep.

Considering how busy she is, we are so grateful to Mss Wright for coming to share her working life as a product manager and tour manager with the children of St Michael’s.
