In maths this half term, the children have been introduced to the numbers 1, 2, and 3. We have been learning to confidently count and say the number names ‘one’, ‘two’ and ‘three’ out loud and then have moved on to match the number names to numerals and quantities.
The children have also been learning to perceptually subitise, which means to instantly recognise the number of objects or items in a group without needing to count them. This will allow them to develop an understanding of what each number looks like, and what it is made up of. We used collaborative learning to explore this concept by finding different representations of 1, 2, and 3!
