The children have arisen to a new day of outdoor learning at PGL. The day starts with breakfast – it is important to be able to tackle each task ahead
Today, the children will be participating in Zip Wire, Sensory Trail, Trapeze, Archery, Rifle Shooting and Climbing – and that’s all before dinner!
But there are also moments to celebrate the awe and wonder of just being outside in nature.
Zip wire is a thrilling ride. Once at the top of the zip wire platform, the children are securely attached to the overhead wire before making their flight across the sky! It’s an exhilarating experience that requires personal courage and determination – often pushing children beyond their natural comfort zone. As always, the rest of the group offer support and encouragement.
The sensory trail is a challenge in more ways than one. In this activity, the children will negotiate a series of obstacles – blindfolded – with the other members of their group for guidance. It’s a challenge which demands mutual trust, self-belief, and effective communication to complete the course successfully. It is also hilarious!
Archery is a new experience for many, handling bows and arrows – unless they are part of our archery after school activity club. However, PGL archery is on a large scale. Accuracy, control and a steady hand are vital for achieving the best results and many children discover a talent for a new skill. Safety awareness is encouraged and reminded from the outset and teach the basic skills on an outdoor range.
Climbing combines different skills including perseverance, strength, an ability to deal with heights – as well as trust in their instructor and equipment. Climbing took place on an outdoor climbing towers using a top-rope for safety. PGL instructors are on hand to focus on pupil’s learning and enjoyment.
Trapeze and Rifle shooting were experienced by new groups today.
After so much activity, the children again make sure to have a hearty meal. They will need all their strength for their disco later on.
Showered and ready to have a load of fun at the PGL disco. But first to get ready…
Are you ready to dance?
After the disco delights, its time to slow down and settle for their last night in Marchant’s Hill. Evening reflections take place together.
I am sure they will all sleep well tonight – it has been a packed day. Goodnight Year 6
