Today, our Year 6 cohort set off for three days and two nights at PGL Marchants Hill. They were packed and ready to go to start their outdoor activities adventure.
They are off!
The children have arrived!
After a spot of packed lunch to fill empty tums, there was time for a quick run around before activities start.
All activities will be experienced over these days with all groups. First activity – Survivor! Once the ‘wilderness’ scenario is set, the children need to develop effective teamwork to build their shelter. They will have to identify and share out the key responsibilities – teamwork and communicatiuon are key!
The Giant Swing is underway with a different group. This is the ultimate test of nerve and joint decision-making. Two or three children are harnessed into the swing, while other members of the group haul them up to 10 metres into the air.
After the group in the swing decide together how high they want to go, a pull on the ripcord will send them plummeting earthward. It’s a fast and exhilarating drop, but good communication will get the right balance between fear and fun!
The children have also enjoyed Trapeze. The challenge starts with a climb to the top of a 6-metre pole. Next, a climb onto the small platform will require balance the children stand to make that leap for the trapeze! No matter what stage they reach, its all an acomplishment. The key is to keep cheering your classmates on.
Rifle shooting is a chance to test concentration and aim using lightweight air rifles. It’s about accuracy – but mainly about new experiences and fun.
After all these activities, it was time for a meal to refuel.
The final activity for the day is campfire – this is always a firm favourite. Songs and chants and a chance to be together as a whole class.
After all the campfire songs, there’s no better way to finish things off than toasted marshmallows!
The children are tucked up in bed – lights are out, but I imagine many eyes are not closed yet. We will start a new blog tomorrow. Goodnight!
