How do you make a Buddy?

At St Michael’s, we have a buddy system. We are a small church school where we value caring for each other. Because we are a split site school, we make every effort for younger children to learn from older children and develop relationships with children who are good role models.

Our new Reception children have a Year 6 buddy for a year. But what is a buddy? We asked the Reception children and they said:

  • a buddy means they are your friend
  • they are the big children
  • they play with me
  • they take care of you
  • they play with me
  • a buddy takes care of us to be our friend
  • they look after you
  • a buddy keeps us safe
  • a buddy is kind to us
  • they help us
  • they teach us stuff

We thought about the word buddy and know that they are:

B – Bigger than you

U – Understanding – they have been here themselves as the smallest in the school

D – dependable – you can rely on them

D – devoted – to keeping you safe and spending time with you

Y – You will be a buddy one day – in six years’ time!

Please see some images from our buddy service.

Here is to a year full of experiences, fun and laughter. Reception class, enjoy your Year 6 buddy.
