A Thunk is a simple question about everyday things designed to help you to look at the world in a completely different way. With a thunk, there is no right or wrong answer – just ideas to be explored and they are a great way to develop children’s oracy.
We share a thunk in collective worship to help the children to develop philosophical thinking, confidence in their own opinions and the ability to listen to others.

The thinking children of St Michael’s had some interesting responses
- The would make laws we would have to follow. They can boss us around a lot more, but we would not know what they are saying
- People would not be rude because they would not know how to be rude
- Everyone would speak elephant – English would not be spoken
- We would be in cages beacuse we have put them in zoos and taken them from their families for a long time
- Elephants are kind and intelligent – they would not harm us
- Buildings and roads would be larger and there may be some confusion between humans and elephants
- People may do illegal things because noone would understand elephant language
- The king on the throne would be an elephant
- Movies would be about elephants, not humans
- More vegetation – less destruction
- We would be enslaved as that is what we have done to elephants
- They would drink all the water
There is no right or wrong – just ideas!
What would your idea be?
