Year Four had the chance to try out physical computing using Crumble. Crumble is an electronics controller that can be connected to a computer. Different components like LEDs, buttons, buzzers and motors can be controlled via the crumble which has been programmed when connected to the computer. This allows us to create lots of exciting projects using a tiny piece of equipment.
We designed and made a monster with two Crumble Sparkles (LED lights) for eyes. After learning to programme the Crumble to create different colours and light patterns we then drew a monster and poked holes out for the sparkles to peep through. When the Crumble was detached from the computer it could be hidden behind the monster and the eyes would flash like a scary monster.
We particularly enjoyed the simplicity of programming the Crumble and how quickly we could make something amazing happen! We are looking forward to using the Crumble microprocessors again for more complex projects using motors and buzzers!
