SCULPTURE AND 3D

Sculpture is an artistic form in which materials are worked into 3D objects.

  • The National curriculum for art and design aims to ensure that all pupils:
    • produce creative work, exploring their ideas and recording their experiences
    • become proficient in drawing, painting, sculpture and other art, craft and design techniques
    • evaluate and analyse creative works using the language of art, craft and design
    • know about great artists, craft makers and designers, and understand the historical and cultural development of their art forms.

Y5 started off by making sculptures using paper – an everyday easily sourced material.

Next, to link in with their history topic, Y5 created Thor’s hammer using clay.

Then came the brooches worn by the Anglo-Saxon and the Vikings. The children started off by carrying out some research. Then they sketched their designs before making them in to 3D shapes using cardboard, string, foil and jewels ( a brooch must sparkle!).
