On Thursday 25th April, we (Year 2) visited the Monument and St. Paul’s as part of our History topic about the Great Fire of London. First we travelled by train to London Bridge.
Next we walked across London Bridge and saw the lovely sights of London. Luckily the weather was glorious!
Then we arrived at the Monument. It was designed by Sir Christopher Wren in memory of the Great Fire and those who lost their lives.
We continued our journey to St. Paul’s Cathedral. We had a lovely tour and got to learn more about the Great Fire.
We looked at the beautiful mosaic ceiling.
As part of our experience, we dressed up as some of the significant people from the past like: the baker Thomas Farriner, Samuel Pepys, Sir Christopher Wren and King Charles ll. We had lots of fun taking part in some role-play!
We even saw the tomb of Sir Christopher Wren.
After lunch, we climbed 259 steps up the dome and viewed the extraordinary Whispering Gallery.
We lit a candle and did a quiet prayer and reflection.
It was a wonderful day and a fantastic time was had by all!
Thank you to all who took the time to accompany us on our trip.
