As a Church of England school, we ensure the children learn about different world religions. We learn about their beliefs and practices and we also reflect and respond to religious and moral issues, what we learn about ourselves.
This half term, our teaching and learning focus has been Easter, with children from Reception to Year 6 h looking at different aspects related to this key Christian celebration.
To aid the children’s learning, they had the opportunity to meet with Deacon David, our in house Chaplain, in class groups. This was to explore an element of their unit of work. Using visitors and visits really helps to enhance the learning opportunities for the children, and helps to create the links needed for the learning to ‘stick’.
The topics of study were:
- Reception – What is so special about Easter?
- Year 1 – Why is Easter the most important to Christians?
- Year 2 – How do Easter symbols help us to understand the true meaning of Easter?
- Year 3 – Who is the most significant person in the Easter story?
- Year 4 – Holy Communion
- Year 5 – What happens in churches during Lent and Easter?
- Year 6 – Easter offers hope
