Year 1’s topic for this half term was ‘ our local area’. Within this scheme of work we have learnt all about the United Kingdom and the countries and Capital cities that make up the U.K We also discovered the different national symbols and flags of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland and the differences between the town and the countryside.
We learnt how wonderful it is to live in London and that our area is called Sydenham. This is also known as our local area. This became the title of our project set for home learning and WOW did the children and families at home come up with some AMAZING projects!
The children were challenged to make a creation of a landmark or favorite place in our local area. We have had Mayow and Crystal Palace Park made using all sorts of clever things found at home, Sydenham, Forest Hill and Lower Sydenham stations recreated using very ingenious items such as cardboard boxes and toilet rolls!
We have churches, shopping centres a model of St. Michael’s school and even a map of the whole area of South London that we live in!
Every single project was wonderful to see and a lot of work has gone in to every single one !
A big thank you and well done to everyone who worked so hard to embed the children’s learning from school by completing such excellent and creative projects!
