The Reception children have been celebrating Diwali and have been learning about this special festival, which is also known as the ‘festival of lights’. As a Church of England school, and as part of the children’s understanding of the world, we encourage the children to recognise that people have different beliefs and celebrate special times in different ways.
Rangoli…
Rangoli patterns can be made using lots of different things. Some people make them with flowers, coloured rice or powders. The children have explored using smalls parts and cotton bud painting to create their own rangoli patterns.
Fireworks…
Fireworks are very popular during Diwali because it is the celebration of light over dark! And the children certainly created their artwork with a bang!
Diya Lamps (also known as diva lamps)
Each Diwali, people light hundreds of Diya lamps. Diyas are usually made out of clay, but the children used their creative printing skills by using sponges and glitter! They really did light up our classroom!
Traditional Music and Dancing…
The children explored and experienced cultural music and traditional clothing by dressing up and dancing the Diwali dance!
Wishing you a Diwali that brings happiness, prosperity and joy to you and all your family!
