Food for thought

The Pupil Ambassadors met, Jayne London, Senior Regional Operations Manager for Nourish Catering the new suppliers of our current school dinners.

Small Enough to Care, but big enough to deliver

Nourish is a small company where the directors and staff are always ‘hands-on’ and available. They listen to the individual needs of their clients in order to offer a tailor-made service. Therefore the Pupil Ambassadors met with Jayne to share the views they had obtained from their classes.

It was clear from the feedback that pasta bolognese was clear favourite with the St Michael’s family, however the fish cakes were not!

Jayne explained :

We believe every child needs a satisfying meal at lunchtime, fuelling them for the afternoon ahead. Nurturing the importance of a healthy and balanced diet, we provide a nutritious meal every day to nourish from within.

All menus are planned and costed to budget whilst working within strict nutritional guidelines.

At Nourish they have a motto: We do. You said. We did.

Jayne heard the honest opinions of the children who shared excellent feedback and ideas – there were lots of suggestions for new fruits! Our current Y6 representatives were very disappointed to hear that they wouldn’t get to taste some of the options that could potentially have on offer! The children continued to listen attentively to Jayne as she also explained the Mayor’s plan for all primary aged children to receive free school dinners next academic year. Y6 headies were disappointed that they had missed out again; however thought it was a good initiative to support all children.

All ambassadors received a Nourish pencil and were able to offer Jayne ‘food for thought’. They are looking forward to the next visit which could potentially involve a visit from the Food Development Manager of Nourish – watch this space!

Pupil Ambassadors – thank you for a job well done!
