In Year 6 the children have been learning the formal method for long multiplication. They have been practising and applying their skills to solve reasoning problems. Working in pairs, they highlighted the important information and key vocabulary to help them answer the questions. We were very impressed with the way they worked together and supported each other to use the method accurately and to check their answers.
‘It was useful to discuss things with my partner, especially for the multi-step questions. We checked and corrected our answers together.’
‘Some of it was a bit tricky but it was less challenging with a partner. We reminded each other about the steps.’
‘I worked really well with my partner. We used inverse operations to see if our answers were correct.’
‘It helps when you’re working with a partner so you can learn how to use the method if you’re not sure about it.’
