Monday 27th March marks the start of Autism Acceptance Week. The aim of the week is to help more people understand what autism is, as well as the ways it can affect life for autistic people. This year the theme is colour.
Autism is a lifelong condition that affects a person in different ways, this is why it is referred to as a spectrum. It can change the way they interact with the world around them. One in 100 people in the UK are autistic; this is more than 700,000 people. This also means that 2.8 million people may know or have a relative who is Autistic. 1 in 80 children in primary schools are autistic.
