Mother’s Day is a chance to say thank you to ALL the mums in our lives.
Thank you for the Mothers, Grandmothers, Godmothers, Stepmothers, Aunts, Sisters, friends, mentors and women who love with a Mother’s heart.
Mothering Sunday falls on the 19th March and we hope all the mums in our school community do have a chance to feel celebrated.
This week the children have been busy making connections in Science Week as well as thinking about why their mums and female role models are so important to them. We spoke about how they feel connected to the significant women in their lives.
We also asked the children to share why their mum is special or what they think mum should have on her special day. It’s always so lovely and inspiring to hear these comments when the role can be a tiring and thankless one! Please enjoy reading some of the responses from your children below.
My mum is special because…
- she brings me to the park
- she gives me the best hugs
- she makes me happy when I feel sad at football
- she always fixes my bike
- she always takes me to my cousin’s house
- she has no mistakes in cooking
- she keeps us healthy making us amazing dinners
- she is kind and beautiful
- she cares for me
- she is a hero and she protects me
- she is loving and wonderful and she is amazing at cooking
- she gives me hugs and kisses
- she plays with me.
On Mother’s Day, my mum should have…
- a day at the park
- a holiday as she is always getting things done (work, chores, making food). She deserves a rest for her hard work!
- breakfast in bed because she always wakes up and makes me breakfast
- presents!
- a day off.
- an enormous chocolate pancake so she can have a break from all the healthy food.
- help, because she is always cleaning the house.
- some rest on the sofa and me and my dad go and buy her presents.
- a nice party.
- a speaker because she loves to live her life loud and proud.
- a spa day and a meal in a lovely restaurant. She deserves it after looking after us every single day
- a mum’s day and new earrings.
- breakfast, lunch and dinner made for her.
- a robot to look after her.
- breakfast in bed with a big warm hug. She deserves it for everything she has had to do to raise my siblings and I. (And for all the scrumptious food!)
- a picture frame and a candle or flowers to relax because she is always working and should have a rest on mother’s day.
- a lie in because she loves a lie in and never gets one.
- a special dinner and flowers.
If those comments and suggestions have not put a smile on your face, then read the poems some children have created.
From some of our youngest…
To some of the juniors….
Here are some images of our youngest children creating just for you. Don’t look too closely – this is just a sneak peek before Sunday.
Finally, a prayer for mums.
Heavenly Father,
We offer this prayer to you in gratitude and praise for the gift of mothers. My mother, those of my friends, relatives, those I’ll never know, all mothers. Thank you for the role they play in the family unit. Thank you for their teachings, their wisdom, their patience, and understanding. Thank you for the physical, emotional, and spiritual gifts they possess. I pray that you help mothers all across the world to be a blessing to their children. Whether delivering affirmation or discipline, I pray that you help every word and action to be done in love.
We pray that children throughout the world would take time to honor their mothers, that you would show them how to uniquely do so.
We pray that these mothers also act as a blessing beyond their households, reaching into their extended families, communities, churches and schools. We pray that the impact of motherhood is revered throughout society and that these women are acknowledged for their everyday impact on the world. May you guide each of them into fulfilling their purpose here on Earth. Amen.
To all the mums and significant women in our lives, we commend and salute you and thank you for your love and care.
Happy Mothers Day!
