In computing this half term, Year 3 have been learning to use Scratch, the MIT developed programming language which allows users to create interactive video games, animations and stories.
The National Curriculum aims for children to be able to “analyse problems in computational terms, and have repeated practical experience of writing computer programs in order to solve such problems”. This is something we have been able to do each week as we further develop our skills and learn more about the different elements of Scratch.
We began by learning the basic terms, including sprite, background, events and sounds, before moving on to combining sprites and motion or sounds, changing the backdrop and building series of code to make sequences.
We have really enjoyed getting to explore the Scratch environment and look forward to further building our skills to create more in-depth games and stories.
