MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU!

Year Five are learning about forces in science.  A force is a push or a pull and can make things move, stop, change their speed, direction or change their shape. The National Curriculum says that children should be taught to ‘identify the effects of air resistance, water resistance and friction, that act between moving surfaces,’ and ‘recognise that some mechanisms including levers, pulleys and gears allow a smaller force to have a greater effect.’

Force is measured using a force meter, so in class we were learning how to use one.  The units for force are Newtons (N).

Did you know that the unit of measure for force was named after Sir Isaac Newton He is one of the greatest English Mathematicians of his generation, born in 1643.

We had so much fun and we are looking forward to learning more about air resistance, water resistance, friction, buoyancy and gravity.

Here are Year 5 in action.

What will future generations say about your mind?
