Last week St Michael’s welcomed Jack Sandison, a professional baritone and music teacher, from the Primary Robins Music Project. Jack will be teaching singing lessons each week to Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 – it has already been a joy to hear the children singing their hearts out!
The Primary Robins Project, organised by Grange Park Opera, began in September 2013 and there are now 4000 children involved from all over England.
Each child has been given a songbook of around 10 songs, one of which is in another language. All songs are traditional rather than pop tunes. The songbook also contains musical notation; it’s not intended to teach children to read music, but some see the pattern of how they sing and what the dots do!
In the future, we hope to also welcome a small orchestral ensemble to St Michael’s to play and talk about each of the instruments. Watch this space!
Keep singing St Michael’s!
