On Thursday 10th March, Year 2 travelled into London to visit St. Paul’s Cathedral. This term, they have been learning about the Great Fire of London and were guided around the Cathedral to learn more about it.
The children walked from school to the station and got a train to Cannon Street.
When we arrived, we walked to the Monument and got to see Pudding Lane where the Great Fire of London started.
We then carried on to St. Paul’s Cathedral where we enjoyed a guided tour.
We got to dress up as different people in 1666 such as firefighters, Samuel Pepys, Thomas Farriner and Sir Christopher Wren. We got into a circle and re-enacted putting the fire out!
We got to lay down and look at the beautiful mosaics on the ceiling!
We lit a candle and reflected on the world around us and what we are thankful for.
The children climbed over 500 steps to get to the top of St. Paul’s Cathedral and the view was incredible!
What an amazing day it was and to top it all off, we were contacted by the Cathedral saying how lovely the children were, how respectful they were to others and the building. As well as this, they commented on the knowledge the children had of the Great Fire.
Well done Year 2, you made us all very proud!
