This week is Children’s Mental Health Week; the theme this year is Growing Together. This theme encourages children (and adults) to consider how they have grown and how they can help others to grow.
Like many schools across the nation, we launched our week by joining Place2Be’s virtual assembly. We’re encouraging children (and adults) to consider how they have grown and how they can help others to grow.
At school we focused on what activities we like to do to promote our good mental health. Children voiced what they like to do to bring them peace of mind, a chance to unload and unwind. Here are a few things they said:
- drawing
- dancing
- reading
- listening to music
- being creative
- getting lost in a good book
- being out in the sunshine – going to the park
- going out with my family on fun days
At school, we enjoyed activities each day to support our good mental health. Here are some of the things we did.
Circle Time You mix, you move, you share with a partner. Passing the shell to speak We listen to the speaker
On Friday was the day to really express ourselves. We dressed in clothing which truly reflected what we felt inside. We saw cool shades, outfits fit for royalty – including tiaras. We had police officers, footballers and those who wanted to spend the day in pyjamas. The entire day was a day to express – I think St Michael’s did that.
Nursery Superheroes Calming mindfulness activities
Year 6 spent Friday with a well-being afternoon. A time to be still, to play games, to paint and build lego (there was also time for a few snacks!)
We will continue to promote our good mental health in any way we can.
